None of the droids were likely designed to work without maintenance well beyond their original expected life of service. Makes sense they’d all develop peculiar quirks if they were advanced enough. Who knows if their self repair diagnostics take account for everything that could go wrong, if they even have any. (Knowing us and our computer technologies they likely do.)
